Beryl var. Aquamarine
This miniature single, detached Beryl var. Aquamarine crystal from Teófilo Otoni in northeast Minas Gerais state is not particularly blue in colour, but its crystal form is wonderful. The prism surfaces are intricately patterned like frosted, or delicately cut glass and its termination shows the development of sloping pyramidal faces. Its base is a fractured surface and this uneven surface extends up on side from the base but it is still a fine gem crystal.
This aquamarine is not typical and if you want to start a collection of unusual specimens, it is a good fit. The locality it comes from is not typical for aquamarine, the color is paler than typical specimens from Asia and it is slightly sloping at the top. A good gemmy aquamarine for the price that stands out.
