This 'fan'-like habit of Epidote was reportedly found at Pampa Blanca District in Castrovirreyna Province, Huancavelica Department, Peru in the mid-1990s. Other, later pockets in the area, produced slightly different forms of crystals, often more acicular in habit. This rather large, pure aggregate of prismatic Epidote crystals exudes character. The Epidote is surprisingly glossy in appearance - something which does not show up in the photograph, but does in the video. Its colour is classic pistachio-green, with a hint of brown, and the crystals are terminated in what appears to be pseudohexagonal prisms. The long prismatic crystals fan-out from several points with the crystals layered upon each other. The longest fully visible Epidote crystal is over 4.5 cm in length, but many others continue underneath others and probably reach 6 or more cm in length. On the outer surfaces where the crystals are terminated the stepped ends to the crystals are arranged like basalt columns with the reflections aligned in tandem. A very impressive large Epidote from this classic discovery.
