An attractive combination specimen with a dark green brilliantly lustrous slightly translucent thick elbaite crystal terminated and measuring 5.5 cm in length set up on a crystallized quartz matrix. Most of the quartz is a light pink rose color. This is crystallized completely all around with no points of attachment. This would make a really good rose quartz specimen, the added crystal of elbaite is a real bonus.
The Alto da Pittora locality, also recorded as Alto da Pitorra, situated near Laranjeiras in the Galileia municipality of the Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil, is a notable mining operation primarily worked for its exceptional pegmatite minerals. Geologically, the deposit is a highly fractionated granitic pegmatite body that intruded the crystalline basement rocks of the Eastern Brazilian Pegmatite Province during the late Neoproterozoic era. Slow cooling of the residual, volatile-rich magmas allowed for the development of major mineral pockets containing large feldspar aggregates, mica, tourmaline, and quartz varieties, most notably well-developed clusters of crystallized rose quartz. Small-scale exploration and extraction at the site began during the mid to late twentieth century, with intermittent commercial gem and mineral specimen production expanding significantly in the early twenty-first century following the discovery of deep, pocket-rich zones that continue to be worked by local miners into the present day.
