Hoganite is an extremely rare copper acetate species first described from Potosi mine at Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia in the early 2000s. In recent times excellent crystallized specimens have been found at two locations in Arizona: Courtland and Holbrook mine. Specimens from Courtland are generally individual, off-matrix crystals, while those from Holbrook mine are more substantial matrix-hosted pieces. This miniature specimen from Holbrook mine is extremely rich and well-crystallized. The Hoganite forms deep blue-green, to somewhat electric-blue equant crystals intensely coating pale green Malachite matrix. Unlike the Type Locality material, which forms thin blade-like monoclinic crystals, these are much more blocky, but are extremely well-formed and look fantastic under magnification. The crystals reach 2 to 2.5 mm in size and are richly dispersed across the display surface of this specimen. A world-class Hoganite.
