Jamborite is an extremely rare, bright green, nickel-cobalt sulfate hydrate and is often an alteration product of Millerite and found only at a few localities worldwide. Hall's Gap, Kentucky is certainly known for its Millerite, however, Jamborite pseudomorphs after Millerite are rare here but considered best of species - and this is an absolutely excellent example! This showy and excellent piece has a relatively large vug about 3.3 cm across at its widest that is lined with both yellow-green Jamborite needles as pseudomorphs of Millerite and a small amount of unaltered to slightly altered, brassy yellow needles of Millerite. Both the Jamborite and Millerite are from 1 to 1.5 cm in length and associated with contrasting Quartz and Dolomite that line the interior of the vug. The vug is hosted in a gray limestone matrix. Rob used to collect here in the mid 1980s as a teenager and can attest to the difficulty of finding good specimens (it is a road cut, and collecting is illegal and prohibited now due to traffic).
