This is an unusual pegmatite specimen from Madagascar consisting of one of the very rare and less common Mica Group minerals, Bityite, accompanied here with Cookeite. Bityite is an endmember to the Margarite Mica sub-group. Bityite is a calcium-lithium-aluminum-beryllium sheet silicate and Cookeite is similar as it is a lithium-aluminum-sheet silicate (no calcium or beryllium). The two species occur here as 2 to 3 mm thin tabular pseudohexagonal plates, mostly standing on edge, and essentially admixed on the surface of an elongated milky-tan Quartz shard as rosettes of dense or compact platy aggregates. A very good specimen for both species, especially Bityite. Ex. Chet Lemanski collection.
