The Falkenstein Mining District at Schwaz, Tyrol, Austria is an ancient one and famous as the Type Locality for the secondary hydrated copper calcium arsenate carbonate hydroxide species, Tyrolite. Primary mineralization is dominated with Tetrahedrite which has recently been reclassified as Tetrahedrite-(Zn). This fantastic miniature specimen from from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) features two excellent crystals of Tetrahedrite-(Zn), the largest of which reaches 9.5 mm in diameter. These crystals are dull grey in appearance, but very fine. Added to this, two old handwritten German/Austrian labels accompany the specimen, using the old term for Tetrahedrite: "Fahlerz". A really fine miniature of Tetrahedrite-(Zn) from this important European mining region.
