Stibnite in Calcite

Unknown Owner
An Italian classic and a rich one at that. The antimony mines at Manciano in Grosseto Province, Tuscany are renowned for producing delicate aesthetic specimens of dark grey metallic acicular Stibnite crystals protruding spectacularly from bright white Calcite, which is usually etched away carefully to expose the Stibnite crystals just enough so that they don't break or fall out. This lovely cabinet specimen is rather rich in Stibnite crystals, some thick, others thin, but their interlocking nature has allowed far more of the Calcite to be removed, making for a spectacular display. The individual Stibnite crystals reach nearly 5 cm in length. The specimen is mounted on an acrylic base for display and to prevent damage when handling. A very fine Italian Stibnite.
