Penninite is an old-time synonym for pennine, a pseudo-trigonal variety of clinochlore. Clinochore is a chlorite group species. This is an excellent, fairly large, blocky, moderately lustrous, green crystal. Both lustrous faces are cleavage plains, as expected from this varietal. The collection this came out of was a museum stash dating to prior to World War I.
