This stunning cabinet-sized Hotazel mine Rhodochrosite from the Kalahari Manganese Field in Northern Cape Province, South Africa features a sumptuous 5 x 3 cm area of superb gemmy vivid pink crystals individually to 3 mm in length. This eye-catching patch contrasts markedly with slightly spherical, to cockscomb aggregates, of matt white to very pale pink Rhodochrosite reaching over 2 cm across. This and the gemmy Rhodochrosite both coat a dense mass of crystallized black to dark grey manganese oxides, possibly Manganite. There are one or two very tiny areas of contact on the upper surface - one on the highest area of the pale pink Rhodochrosite and one on the edge of the gemmy Rhodochrosite. Despite this, this piece has real character and is very attractive.
