Rhodochrosite with Manganite on Kutnohorite

Unknown Owner
Rhodochrosite from the N'Chwaning mines in N. Cape Province is known the world over for its quality lustrous and sometimes glassy crystals. This miniature specimen of Rhodochrosite from N'Chwaning II mine is very unusual, in that it is not only a lovely layer of translucent deep orange-pink Rhodochrosite microcrystals but has a hollow core within which an acicular spray of pale pink Kutnohorite has grown, but only partially infilling the space. This hollow centre allows light to penetrate through the Rhodochrosite, adding texture and brightness to the specimen. Tiny black Manganite crystals are sparsely scattered upon the terminated Rhodochrosite crystals providing additional character. A fun and highly distinctive N'Chwaning mines Rhodochrosite.
