Freibergite
Unknown Owner
This exceptional freibergite specimen comes from the Melgarejo Mine, a classic Bolivian silver locality renowned for producing world-class sulfosalts. The piece features sharp, undamaged freibergite crystals reaching 2.3 cm, an impressive size for the species, with strong metallic luster and well-developed polyhedral forms. Freibergite is a rare, silver-rich member of the tetrahedrite group, prized by collectors for its complex chemistry, high silver content, and striking crystal habits. The Machacamarca–Colavi district in Potosi has a long mining history and is especially famous for yielding some of the finest freibergite specimens known, making this example both scientifically significant and highly desirable for advanced collectors of silver minerals and classic South American localities.
