Malachite with Quartz

This fine, cabinet-sized, green, grey and brown coloured sparkling Quartz from the Tenke-Fungurume area in the Kolwezi mining district, DR Congo is coloured by the underlying minerals. The green inclusions come from Malachite which, on the sides of the specimen, can be seen forming green radiating masses upon which the finely crystallized glassy Quartz has coated. The brown colour is is created by the massive brown coloured ironstone matrix. The display surface is very fine, richly encrusted in small sparkling Quartz crystals. The Quartz covers the entirety of the cavity in a uniformly 2 mm thick layer of small 'spiky' pyramidal crystals. Quite distinctive material of a most unusual colour for Quartz.
