Malachite with Quartz
This really fine, large miniature to small cabinet-sized, green Quartz and Malachite from the Tenke-Fungurume area in the Kolwezi mining district, DR Congo displays almost the perfect green colour of this new material. Comprising a dark brown to burgundy ironstone matrix the finely crystalline Quartz which forms over the top also encapsulates hidden layers of Malachite which provide the wonderful green inclusions to the glassy Quartz. The contrast between green and almost grey Quartz is very attractive and the presence of a lovely 1.4 cm diameter green 'ball' of Quartz presumably marks an underlying spherical aggregate of Malachite. The green colour displayed here is exceptional for Quartz. A small, but remarkably fine specimen from this new find.
