Description
This large miniature Malachite specimen is from the famous Star of Congo mine in the Katanga Copper Crescent, DR Congo. Mined since 1907, this is one of the longest-lived copper and cobalt mining operations in the country. Consisting of a base of floret-like masses of green velvety Malachite the top surface is smoother and botryoidal in form and from this protrude like fingers, several smooth, slightly glossy stalactites, the longest reaching 4 cm in length. The stalactites appear of a uniform width and simply produce a wonderful artistic effect, small, but sublime.
