This fine, cabinet-sized, green and purple coloured sparkling Quartz from the Tenke-Fungurume area in the Kolwezi mining district, DR Congo is coloured by the underlying minerals. The green inclusions come from Malachite which, on the back of the specimen, can be seen forming green radiating masses upon which the finely crystallized glassy Quartz has coated. The purple colour is is created by the massive brown coloured ironstone matrix. The display surface is quite architectural, a somewhat geode-like crystal-lined cavity. The Quartz covers the entirety of the cavity in a uniformly 2 mm thick layer of small 'spiky' pyramidal crystals. Quite distinctive material.
