What a major classic alpine specimen! This piece comes from the Gotthardtunnel, dug in the 1970s of last century. A composite cluster of large fluorite octahedrons to 5.0 cm across is resting on a floater matrix of chlorite included fluorites. Associated minerals are quartz (on back side) and a fine cluster of green apophyllites perched on top right side. The entire specimen is actually a complete floater and has no points of attachment or contact. the colour of the fluorites is quite unusual and more on the yellowish/orange side than one would expect from a swiss locality. Note how well the back side is crystallized also! Probably the best specimen recovered from this pocket and indeed an alpine masterpiece!
