A very rare location tourmaline, from a location best known in ancient times also for spinels. Tajikistan pegmatites are still very poorly understood and explored, and yet they have some unique gem crystals such as these multicolored tourmalines. This complete, gemmy crystal measures in at 17 grams, is complete and perfect all around, and has no repairs. It has a classic style for Tajik tourmalines, with that olive green core body color. We saw these in the 1990s, and many came out through the Fersman Museum expeditions at the time. I used to speak Russian and helped the Fersman folks establish business here in the USA in the mid 1990s, buying a lot of their specimens in the process - and a few of these, but in much smaller size! However, we have not seen more than a handful since those years, and we suspect this is an older piece that was in a collection in Russia for decades (and I purchased it from a Russian collector).
