This is a rare, finely formed plate of sharp rhodochrosite crystals to 1.6 cm, sparkling with associated pyrite, from the historic Eagle Mine in Colorado. You almost never see these old classics so well preserved in this size range, and it is a very displayable specimen! A classic historical specimen from the mid 1900s era of mining here, probably from the 1960s or mid 1970s when many workers realized the value of pretty specimens and started bringing them out to the emerging market for minerals. Ex. Lee Peterson collection (Lee was a Houston collector who retired up to Colorado and built a large Colorado ore suite among others).
