This specimen looks like modern art and hosts a pair of large, blocky, dramatic, lustrous, well formed VIBRANT azure-blue azurite crystals from Tsumeb. The color is unlike anything else you have seen from Tsumeb, we believe...and it has always been unique. It has been in Jack's collection since 2001, one of his top 100 pieces. These are absolute textbook crystals with razor sharp edges and well-developed faces and the prominent one has a chisel-point termination. The two big azure-blue crystals also exhibit an extra strong electric-blue color on parts of the faces and some of the edges. The pair of azurites measure 5.4 and 5.2 cm in size, respectively, and are tastefully sitting on matrix of partial azurite crystals of the same character. The specimen is superb in every way and quite different from most Tsumeb azurites. Tsumeb is renowned for its world-class azurite specimens and this piece exemplifies why. Just excellent AND distinct from the rest. Note the provenance: Bill Larson collection to Steve Smale to Wayne Thompson to Jack Halpern - four of the top collectors of their generation. Featured in the book Addicted to Beauty: The Legacy of Jack Halpern (Mineralogical Record, March 2025) on page 151, fig. 154.
