Titanite
This incredibly rich Rutile is from the famed Pfitsch Pass in Zillertal, North Tyrol, Austria. It displays many terminated Rutile crystals strewn over and embedded in a creamy salmon pink Feldspar which forms platy crystals to 7 mm long. One Rutile crystal measuring 2.2 x 1.0 x 0.8 cm leans off-vertical against a slightly higher mound of Feldspar crystals. The Rutile is dark mahogany red with claret and pinkish red zones, all with deep, vertically striated faces and all crystals displaying a brilliant metallic bright lustre. This lovely small cabinet specimen is accompanied with an extremely old looking label, written in old copperplate handwriting and on the reverse side is a slightly blurred circular rubber stamp in faded blue ink.
