Faden Quartz
What a remarkable specimen! This tall and highly distorted Faden Quartz crystal is from North Waziristan in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. Although of unusual habit, it is typically characteristic for this locality. Mounted vertically on an acrylic base, the largest crystal measures 8.4 x 1.8 x 0.7 cm and is ice-clear throughout, save for the milky white Faden line along the full length of the crystal. Other, broader Quartz crystals are attached around the base and a small cluster of equally gemmy crystals branch upwards out from the termination. Conditions for the growth of such crystals must have been very unusual to produce such an infrequently seen Quartz habit.\n
