This thumbnail-sized off matrix single, doubly-terminated crystal of Corundum, var. Ruby might not be gem quality in the gemstone cutting sense, but is a 'gem' of a crystal. It is from the famous gem-bearing region of Mysore District in southern India and displays a wonderful hexagonal shape and a really lovely cerise colour and fine surface lustre. This combination is rarely seen in crystals from Mysore, where often the lustre is quite dull.
