Description
The Moscona mine, near Solís, Corvera de Asturias, Asturias, Spain is a big producer of industrial grade Fluorite. It is also one of the youngest mines in the region, having started during the late 1960s. Many mineral specimens have left the mine and the Fluorite is almost always a golden-yellow colour. This fine cabinet specimen displays the classic colour with the whole display surface encrusted with glassy cubic Fluorite crystals to 5 mm on edge. However, what makes it stand out is the partial overgrowth of curved saddle-shaped pearlescent white Dolomite crystals. The lustre of the Dolomite crystals is lovely and is what really draws the eye. The combination of Dolomite on golden Fluorite is quite distinctive and attractive. Lines of an unidentified dark coloured sulphide overgrow the Fluorite in places.
