Mörchnerkar is a rather cold and desolate-looking area in the North Tyrol of Austria; only about 3 km from the border with Italy. Despite the somewhat bleak landscape, the area contains Alpine clefts and where there are clefts, there are often minerals! Ten different species are recorded from Mörchnerkar, one being Fluorapatite which is characteristically colourless or creamy grey, mainly devoid of any brighter colour. This specimen is an intergrown pair of thick blocky crystals, the most complete prism measuring 3.5 x 3.0 x 1.8 cm. Each prism is hexagonal with an outer translucent, smoky, slightly yellowish-grey rind and inner, more opaque core. It is accompanied by two labels, one much older and from the Senator F.J. Kessler Collection; a 19th-century mineral collector and senator from Frankfurt, Germany.
