Tucson, Arizona, USAChalcocite, a copper sulphide, is known to form excellent crystals at Geevor mine, famously situated at Pendeen, north of St. Just and close to the Land’s End coastline. This thumbnail specimen is off-matrix, save for minor grains of creamy Quartz, and consists solely of Chalcocite crystals. It is composed of a bevel edged, platy pseudohexagonal crystal attached to a 1.9 cm long double terminated Chalcocite crystal. All the crystals are steel blue grey with a metallic lustre, some displaying a little iridescence. The pseudohexagonal crystal measures 1.2 cm between flats and is equally showy viewed from either side. A magnificent thumbnail sized Chalcocite with beautifully developed crystals from Simms Lode, Geevor mine, Pendeen, Cornwall.
