LIVINGSTONITE with Moschellandsbergite
Livingstonite I presume? Named after the famous Scottish explorer, David Livingstone, the extremely rare mercury antimony sulphide species Livingstonite was first discovered in Mexico, rather than Africa where he was made famous. This thumbnail specimen from the famous mercury mining region of Landsberg (Moschellandsberg) in Germany, is rich enough in the super rare species Moschellandsbergite - named of course after this area - but has the addition of Livingstonite which is super rare from Landsberg. The Moschellandsbergite is obvious enough, forming the bulk of the specimen as a pale golden coloured, submetallic, massive phase with a slightly pitted surface on the edges. This rougher, darker, surface under high magnification is seen to be coated in minute dark grey bladed microcrystals of Livingstonite. A real treat for rare species enthusiasts, or mercury obsessives.
