Scolecite

This superb radial spray of Scolecite nestles snugly within a 13 cm diameter geode composed of greenish-grey basalt. Scolecite is a hydrated calcium-aluminium silicate and a member of the Zeolite Group. Colourless to milky white acicular crystals form a broad spray, averaging 3 cm tall and 5.5 cm wide. Almost all the crystals have perfectly formed pyramidal terminations and in long-wave ultraviolet (LWUV) light fluoresce and overall muddy cream with pale sky blue zones in the lower basal zones of the prisms. The geode cavity is 7.5 cm wide across the display face and is line with drusy bluish-grey Chalcedony, a variety of Quartz. A fabulous large cabinet specimen of Scolecite on Chalcedony from the Nashik District in Maharashtra, India.
