Fluorite

The colour and transparency of this small cabinet-sized Fluorite from Ozark-Mahoning mine, Cave-in-Rock, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA is exceptionally fine. Infact, I would say that this outweighs the few areas of contact damage seen on some of the corners of crystals. Side-on, the Fluorite presents very nice layered colour zoning from grey/white internally to progressively darker purple outwards to the terminations, but in discrete bands. Front-on and back-lit, wonderful darker purple 'lines' can been seen internally, providing a shadow outline to the external crystal form. The front facing crystals, despite some being damaged on the corners, display a superb tessellated pattern and a really fine glassy lustre. Ex Arvid Pasto collection, no. AEP1802.

Editor's note

This is an exceptionally large piece of lustrous fluorite from a well-known classic locality for the price. Damage on the corners does not take away from its classic beauty. Being an impressive size, it could serve as an interior piece or as a great item for your new collection if you are just starting to appreciate fluorite.
