The main surface workings of Kit Hill Consols (aka Kit Hill mine) stand on the southern slope Kt Hill, east of Kelly Bray, Callington, in east Cornwall. Kit Hill is a satellite pluton of the Bodmin Granite. The mine operated during the latter half of the 1800s, producing tin, copper and tungsten. Amongst the nine mineral species recorded from this mine is the molybdenum sulphide Molybdenite where it occurs in vein Quartz as foliated masses. This large miniature is a fine and rich example, containing two adjacent bright silver masses, one to 1.2 cm and one about 1.5 cm across, each with a bright metallic lustre. The accompanying label, from a well respected British collector, states it was collected from the Engine Shaft Dump, although no date is provided.
