An uncommon miniature of botryoidal Malachite mixed with a grey sulphide and granulated milky Quartz matrix from Wheal Basset. This famous Cornish mine is situated to the south of Carn Brea and at the time of mining, within the parish of Illogan. Today Wheal Basset is known for its wide variety of mineral species, the type locality to three of these and for its well-preserved mine buildings. The Malachite varies from turquoise bluish green to light leafy emerald green and is intermixed with what is probably massive Chalcocite plus the occasional speck of brassy Chalcopyrite. A characteristic Malachite from Wheal Basset, ex. the Mike Brooke Collection together with his label and a much older unprovenanced label numbered 428.
