Description
This remarkably well-crystallized Skutterudite specimen from the fine collection put together by brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) was recorded as from Freiberg, or the Freiberg Mining District, but specimens of this quality are simply not known from there. Based on expert opinion it is believed to be from the Schlema-Hartenstein mining district 45 miles to the southwest. I should also highlight that there is a prominent crack running up through the centre (visible in the video), but focus in on the quality of the Skutterudite crystals - they are stunning. Sharp, well-formed, silvery metallic cubic crystals, some twinned, and large too, with many 5 mm on edge. A superb crystallized example of Skutterudite from Germany.
