Tucson, Arizona, USAWhether you own or have seen enough Pyromorphites from Roughton Gill to sink a ship, ensure you look at this carefully as it is a remarkable example. Such a bold statement always sounds like hype, but I think you'll be in agreement once all aspects are appreciated. The Pyromorphite pervades this highly cellular veinstone matrix and on the display face completely lines a 6 x 6 cm vug. The prisms are a fairly uniform yellowish lime to siskin green and form long acicular crystals, quite commonly with hoppered terminations. However, the emphasis is on "long acicular", for many of these are beyond what I thought possible for this species. One I focused on is 1 mm diameter, yet about 15 mm long, appearing more organic than mineral! There are also ridges or lines of longitudinally, intergrown Pyromorphite crystals, one example being a chain of 1 to 2 mm wide but 40 mm long! There are many other similar examples. It is a remarkable and super aesthetic specimen. Roughton Gill lies at the heart of the Caldbeck Fells in the English Lake district of north west England. If you treat do yourself to this I suspect you'll be rather delighted, to put it mildly!
