Chrysoberyl 3 pieces
Unknown Owner
This splendid set of three multiple twinned Chrysoberyl is from the Ambatondrazaka District within the Alaotra-Mangoro Region of Toamasina Province, Madagascar. This rich gem-bearing district is in the north-east of Madagascar and although it contains many gem species, it is probably best known for its Chrysoberyl. The first of the three specimens is a pair of translucent, greenish-lemon yellow Chrysoberyl "V" twinned crystals, containing gemmy zones towards the prism terminations. The faces of these prisms are heavily striated, aligned towards the broad, chisel-like terminations. The crystals are complete all around and it is ex. matrix. The second specimen is what we commonly call a 'sixling', more precisely, a stellate, repeated cyclic twin. This part gemmy, mainly translucent sixling is a delicate powder to cornflower blue and displaying a bright, glassy lustre, displaying near-perfect symmetry. The third Chrysoberyl is another sixling, again translucent with occasional gemmy regions, and in this case slightly asymmetrical, with two of the six terminations a little shorted.
