Description

Geocronite is a rare lead antimony sulphide, also termed an antimony sulphosalt and this small yet excellent crystallised example is from the Pollone mine at Valdicastello Carducci in Tuscany, north-west Italy. The Pollone mine worked a barium-iron deposit and is world famous for the Geocronite crystals it produced. A word of warning is necessary however, because analytical work conducted indicated many crystals from here labelled Geocronite are in fact Jordanite (isostructural with Geocronite and forming the Geocronite-Jordanite series). This off-matrix crystal measures 14 x 9 x 8 mm and forms a perfect and sharp, double spear-headed termination.\n
