Whitlockite

A rich miniature of the calcium phosphate Whitlockite from Big Fish River in the Dawson Mining District of Yukon, Canada. This region of Canada hosts many rare phosphate minerals. The Whitlockite forms white tabular crystals with a pearlescent lustre and is a good example of this relatively rare species. Whitlockite is an unusual form of calcium phosphate which the monofluorophosphate ion and maybe be found in a diverse range of environments including granitic pegmatites, guano caves and in chondrite meteorites. This is a fine example from Yukon.
