Fiery orange-red and yellow crystalline patches of Kombatite and Sahlinite, to about 2 mm in length, within dark grey Hematite in a thumbnail specimen from Kombat mine, Grootfontein District, Namibia. As the name suggests, Kombatite was first discovered at Kombat mine. The account of this new species was published in 1986, and, judging by the old label on its original plastic box, this specimen dates to that period also. A small, but rich specimen of a mineralogical rarity.
