Rhodochrosite
Unknown Owner
This is a really rather large specimen of crystallized Rhodochrosite from the famous N'Chwaning mines in South Africa. At over 15 cm in length and with the display surface completely covered in glossy deep cerise coloured crystals to 1 to 2 mm in length this really is a cracker. True, the crystals are small, but they are the classic shape, colour and lustre from N'Chwaning mines, which is such an iconic occurrence for Rhodochrosite. The matrix is massive black undifferentiated manganese oxides, probably containing Manganite. Classic material, big, and dramatic.
