A small number of localities near the city of Clermont-Ferrand, Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne, France have produced excellent honey coloured tabular Baryte crystals. This lovely large miniature specimen shows the form perfectly, but is not provenanced to a specific locality. However, the appearance of this specimen bears all the hallmarks of Châtel-Guyon. Consisting of a rib of granitic matrix the top surface is covered in well-formed, pale honey coloured thick tabular Baryte crystals with a lovely resinous lustre. The crystals reach 21 mm on edge, with the smaller crystals transparent and the thicker ones translucent. Some show subtle zonation, with a thin, paler band along the edges. A pretty Baryte from central France.
