Fluorite with Quartz and Calcite
This rather fabulous large cabinet specimen of straw yellow Fluorite, dusted with sparkling crystals of Quartz and Calcite, is probably from West Pasture mine, but please note the locality is uncertain. West Pasture mine is considered most probable following examination by several knowledgeable collectors. West Pasture mine is located a little to the north of the village of Stanhope and although most well known for its Fluorite in various shades of apple green, is also know for this shade of yellow and with a crust of tiny bright Quartz crystals. The Fluorite occurs as single cubic crystals of between 1.5 and 2.8 cm on edge, all intergrown and largely transparent grading to more opaque centres. The overall colour is that of smoky straw yellow with zones of darker smoky tan and clove brown. The coverage of Quartz is beautiful and really enhances the aesthetic. The quartz crystals are only 1 to 3 mm tall yet form perfectly terminated prisms of gemmy, colourless and milky white. The specimen shows one small point of attachment at one end because its base is dotted with individual flying saucer habit, nail head Calcite crystals to 1.4 cm diameter. This showy specimen is ex. the Mike Brooke Collection. Please note this is a heavy specimen and may incur additional postage and packing costs.\n
