A large miniature specimen displaying classic large, colourless to cream, monoclinic, Bobierrite crystals resembling Selenite, on botryoidal Collinsite from Kovdor Zheleznyi mine, Kovdor Massif, Kola Peninsula, Murmanskaja Oblast', Russia. Bobierrite and Collinsite are unusual hydrated magnesium and calcium-magnesium phosphates. The mine actually produces high-grade iron ore (Magnetite), but there are associated phosphates within which rare species occur. The world's largest Bobierrite crystals come from Kovdor Zheleznyi mine, and at 3 cm from end to end, the largest crystal on this specimen is certainly impressive. Most of the rare phosphates came from this mine during the 1980s and 1990s.
