Namibia is famed for producing the world's finest crystals of the rare lead zinc vanadate hydroxide, Descloizite. The locality that everyone thinks of is Berg Aukas mine, near Grootfontein, but there are other occurrences too. This sumptuous miniature specimen demonstrates this. It is from Auros Farm 595, the opposite side of Grootfontein, and displays superb spear-shaped Descloizite crystals to 8 mm tall, with the most amazing bright resinous lustre seen on only the very finest Descloizites. The crystals form a long, narrow aggregate, but its density shows its richness. The crystals are a dark, cola-brown colour, like many from Berg Aukas mine. A lovely showy example of this often overlooked species.
