Description
Datolite is a calcium boron hydroxide nesosilicate and is one of those species not frequently encountered, certainly as decent size crystals. This superb example is from Dal'negorsk in Primorsky Kray, in the Far-Eastern Region of Russia. Pale apple to minty green Datolite crystals cover a 13 x 5 cm Quartz plate. These the majority of the Datolite is overgrown with sparkling, opaque milky Quartz crystals and between the Datolite emerge prismatic Quartz crystals of up to 3 cm tall, also largely overgrown by the milky Quartz. The largest Datolite crystal measures 4 x 2.8 x 2.7 cm and like all others has a transparent, glassy outer surface grading to an opaque centre. A fine and showy example of Datolite.\n
