Despite its incredible mineral wealth and lead being one of its primary products, Tsumeb is not renowned for its Galena crystals. How strange this is; of all minerals found here, Galena is one you would imagine would have produced some of the world’s most spectacular specimens, but this is not the case. Have painted this rather pessimistic introduction, as far as Tsumeb Galena goes, this small cabinet specimen is a real cracker, displaying a towering mound of good crystals, despite them display a sooty, dark chocolate to almost black patina and a matt lustre. The complex crystals measure up to around 2 cm and sit on a bed of mixed Cerussite and needle Quartz. An old German label is glued to the base, printed Bleiglanz (Galena). A quite spectacular Galena for Tsumeb!\n
