This is a beautiful Malachite from the historic Friedrich-Christian mine, Wildschapbach Valley, Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is large miniature in size and is extremely rich for the locality, representing a near pure aggregate of green, silky to velvety, fibrous Malachite, terminated as botryoidal growths. The specimen is from the superb collection assembled by brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) but is clearly much older. There was a mine active in the area in the Middle Ages. Further activity took place during the 18th and 19th centuries but it eventually closed in 1870. During the middle of the 20th century some Fluorite was mined for industry but none of it was specimen quality. A handsome specimen, from an important mine.
