Rhodochrosite
A magnificent group of prismatic somewhat tapering, translucent-opaque pinkish cherry red Rhodochrosite crystals from Wolf mine by the town of Herdorf in the Rhineland-Palatinate of Germany. The group of radial crystals measures 2 cm across and sits on top of a characteristic rusty brown Goethite gossan matrix. The Rhodochrosite crystals generally taper towards their flat pinacoid terminations, the surfaces of these all having a micro-stippled texture. This polymetallic mine, which worked a deposit of Devonian age, is particularly well known for its outstanding Rhodochrosite. A superb small cabinet specimen of eye-catching Rhodochrosite from Wolf mine with a custom made acrylic display stand. Ex Christian Weise.
