Pyromorphite
Wheal Rose, near Porthleven in Cornwall is a famous historic lead mine with many 18th century specimens represented in Philip Rashleigh's famous collection in the Royal Cornwall Museum. Modern exploration at the mine produced excellent finds in living memory and so it is uncertain how old this specimen is. Either way, it is a lovely, very richly crystallized Cornish Pyromorphite and passed from the dealers Gregory, Bottley & Lloyd to Mike Brooke's British collection. Consisting of a small piece of gossanous Quartz veinstone, an area measuring 3.5 cm x 2 cm is covered in very lustrous, waxy, yellow-green prismatic Pyromorphite crystals to 3 mm in length. The quality of the crystals is extremely good and compares favourably with the renowned Pyromorphite from Wheal Alfred.
