Grossular

Unknown Owner
Jeffrey mine, near the town of Asbestos, Estrie, Québec, Canada has produced perhaps the world's finest Grossular crystals. The reason, is not so much their size, but their crystal form, and optical properties. Grossular crystals from Jeffrey mine are usually an orange colour, and extremely glassy and transparent. However, their most desirable feature is the complexity of their stepped crystal faces. Under magnification these crystals are mesmerizing in their form. This small cabinet specimen is an extremely fine example of all of these attributes. The rock matrix is coated on its upper surface with tiny, sub mm, pale cream glassy microcrystals of Grossular with larger, darker orange, complex Grossular crystals to 9 mm across evenly dispersed. These crystals are gorgeous under magnification, stunning, but a couple show very light areas of damage where they have been contacted, otherwise this would be significantly higher priced.
