Description
Ani Mine is a generic name given to cover a group of six or seven copper mines which worked from 1885 until 1978 in the Ani-area of Ani-machi, Kitaakita City, in the Akita Prefecture of Japan. The individual mines were named Ani-kosawa; Ani-kayakusa; Ani-magisawa; Ani-sammai; Ani-ichinomata; Ani-ninomata and Ani-mukaiyama mine. Twenty one mineral species have been recorded from these mines; this cabinet specimen being a fine example of crystallised Chalcopyrite on snow-white milky Quartz. The specimen is accompanied with an old hand written label in English with some printed text in Japanese.
