Most mines in Arizona had long ago given up their minerals to collectors and we expect few major surprises, especially for a species like Azurite where so much was found in Arizona. You'd think if a mine had good azurite, we would have seen it by now. However, in October of 2009, a freak find at the lesser known Carlota Mine really surprised collectors with a single pocket of brilliantly lustrous, shiny azurite crystals on thin malachite rinds as matrix. This was found deep inside, on the 3460 foot level of the mine - completely unexpected compared to anything else produced here. The pocket sold to Evan Jones, who sold out quickly. He sold this to David Stoudt in December of 2009 before the Tucson show of that year (David visited him to have an early pick). It should be regarded as one of the finer and larger examples of this quality, from the pocket. It glows with color in a showcase... not too dark nor too light. These remain a one time find from Arizona.
